Kids and Magnets

Magnets and kids don't mix well. Apparently they can swallow the magnets and the magnets these days are so powerful they can cause perforations in the bowels and infections. So if you're buying toys for a child, your own or otherwise, don't buy toys with magnets in them!

Oh, and the Evenflo Discovery carseat has been recalled. http://safety.evenflo.com/cs/sc/cssc99_RD.phtml?rid=EFR20&src=WEB . My favorite part of their voluntary recall is this:

"These lab tests do show there is potential for the base to detach from the seat in high impact side collisions..[they've come up w/a part that supposedly fixes this]..No shipping costs will be incurred and orders will arrive in approximately 3 to 4 weeks. In the meantime, consumers should continue to use their Discovery infant car seat and there is no need to return it to retailers."

So if I'm a mom who is putting my kid in this carseat every day, you're telling me that the car seat may detach in a collision, and the part that "fixes" this won't come in the mail for 3-4 weeks and I should just keep using the car seat in the meantime, and just hope that some idiot doesn't hit me while I'm taking my child to the park one day? Is Evenflo serious??? If it's fine to ride around for 3-4 weeks in a car seat that could detach, what's the point of a recall and a part that "fixes" the problem? That makes no sense whatsoever. It does however make sense if you're Evenflo and don't want your customers jumping ship and buying a safer car seat from a competitor.

The idiocy of that recall statement almost makes me want to boycott their products.
